Quality Control Committee Meeting Minutes

November 13, 2008

1. Acceptance and implementation of using [only] OCLC for obtaining bib records was approved by QC and they will begin changing their workflows accordingly.
2. Decided to format OCLC number with (OCoLC) preceding it e.g. 035 //$a(OCoLC)123456789 and if the numbers require preceding zeros – include those as well
3. Decided to change/delete the text in the authority control justification document that says a professional librarian won’t be necessary after authority control         (Done)
4. Confirmed that 3 volumes is the maximum number of 856s in a mfhd for ebooks – if there are more than three volumes – a single 856 with a link to the title should be used instead of direct links to each volume.
5. Decided to keep “Get full-text. Institution users only.” as the URL text for multi-volumes because it makes more sense to the patron
6. Decided to use the 655 field for form/genre headings whenever there is a corresponding (i.e., 155) authority record.  When there is not, we will use the 650.
7. If we undertake automated authority control, we will have all MeSH, BIP, and foreign language subject headings deleted from the bib records.
8. Concern was raised by several institutions about the need for there to be a person on staff at FLO that has experience in cataloging and authority work – someone with the skills to provide support and direction for FLOQC.

There will be no committee meeting in December. The next meeting will be January 8, 2008 at 10am.
